Piggy-back Computer?!
Importance of Fuel Adjustment & Role of Piggy-back Computer
To drive a gasoline-fueled vehicle, the air-fuel ratio and ignition timing are severely balanced
To drive a vehicle, the conditions of the engine output, fuel efficiency, exhaust gas, etc. must be right for the engine. Usually, the ideal air-fuel ratio is 1:14.7 (stoichiometric air furl ratio), and the air-fuel mixture must be combusted at proper ignition timing.
However, this stoichiometric air-fuel ratio can be applied to street driving; therefore, under high load driving, the air-fuel ratio of the mixture and ignition timing must be adjusted properly.
Tuning should result in high efficiency. Adjust the air-fuel ratio and ignition timing!
When the load condition is compared between a tuned vehicle and a stock vehicle, it is obvious that the load to the tuned vehicle is higher; therefore, the air-fuel ratio and ignition timing must be different from the stock conditions. To drive a tuned vehicle under the high load with the maximized engine performance and without the engine damage, the air-fuel ratio and ignition timing must be adjusted properly.
To maintain the appropriate tuned engine conditions; in other words, to maintain the best air-fuel ratio to lead combustion at the best ignition timing, the Piggy-back computer is necessary.
Role of Piggy-back Computer
The Piggy-back computer plays an important role to control the conditions of the engine output, fuel efficiency, exhaust gas, etc
When a vehicle which intake/exhaust parts, such as air cleaner, intake piping, and/or exhaust system, are upgraded, the intake air volume is increased; however, it also lowers the ratio of fuel volume to air. The Piggy-back computer can increase the fuel volume based on the increased intake air volume and decide the best ignition timing; therefore, the maximized engine performance can be obtained. Also, in case of excessive fuel under a high load driving, the Piggy-back computer can decrease the fuel's injection volume to lead high engine output.
This is how the Piggy-back computer maintains the appropriate conditions for the tuned engine and maximizes the performance parts' advantageous effects.
