HKS TURBINE

HKS turbo series are available for a great variety of tuning requirements. "GT III Turbine" is a new generation of turbo combining the latest design CHRA with HKS original housings. "GTII Turbine" is an HKS original design turbo considering various engine characteristics for higher engine power and response.

ACTUATOR TYPE

Suitable for street to circuit uses (small to mid-power spec.)
Using the intake manifold pressure to control the boost pressure, and excessive exhaust is bypassed from the small valve of the turbo housing to the exhaust.

WASTEGATE TYPE

Suitable for a high power circuit and drag race spec.
Using the intake manifold pressure to control the boost pressure, and excessive exhaust is bypassed from the big valve of the exhaust manifold to the exhaust.

Concepts

  • HKS takes on the challenge of reaching high power zones that have not been covered previously.
  • The turbo system offers a comprehensive application in some of fields, such as drag racing, drifting and track time attack.

Features

  • Compared to previous HKS turbochargers, this turbocharger provides a massive charging air flow despite the small diameter of both compressor/turbo wheels.
  • The V-band turbo housing is made of stainless steel. (*Material may vary from model to model.)
  • Recommended for those who use big singles for track day.
  • CHRA Bearings are ball bearings.
  • The GTIII-5R and 4R designs have a machined aluminum ported shroud that combines the bell mouth design and T51R type recirculation channel to provide both anti-surging and smooth intake air flow.
  • A special, highly corrosion-resistant matt black coating treatment on the surface of the compressor housing prevents aluminum corrosion over time. It also combines with a champagne gold anodized ported shroud to unify the design exterior.

[ Highly corrosion-resistant matte black coating treatment]

  • A highly corrosion-resistant matt black coating treatment is applied to protect the exterior of the compressor housing from corrosion.
  • This coating is a surface treatment with the ability to provide no surface corrosion even after 240 hours in accelerated corrosion tests.(combined cycle)

[ Bellmouth shape ported shroud ]

  • The ported shroud design inherited from the TO4Z and evolved in the GTIII-4R and 5R.
  • The standard ported shroud has a piped inlet, but the bell-mouth shaped intake air flow channel with a wide inlet diameter is shaped as a "hole" to allow intake air to be taken in through the suction pipe.
  • The structure also makes it easy to produce the turbo spool sound, also known as the 'T51R sound'.

The model name is based on maximum output (compressor side) and turbine wheel diameter.

[ Compressor map ]

Wide maximum efficiency range extending from low boost pressures with a pressure ratio of 2 to high boost pressures with a pressure ratio of 3. Growth potential at high boost pressure.

Recent requirements towards fuel efficiency and emissions control have accelerated the development of turbo technology and this has been adapted for tuning. GTIII turbine series are combined with MHI brand CHRA made with the latest technology.
The aluminum forged impeller allows achieving high boost at low air flow ranges whilst surging is prevented.  HKS designed housings which utilize the technology, experience and know how built up over many years of turbo charger innovation.  This original design improves the turbine efficiency and minimizes surging. The combination of the ultimate turbine blades and its optimal housing creates an amazingly versatile turbo. The turbine efficiency enhancement makes this orthodox floating metal type turbine comparable to a ball bearing type.

GTIII-5R

GTIII-5R

  • GTIII-5R is a successor model of T51 SPL BB; it is compact in size, but withstands over 800PS.
  • Highly reliable MHI high performance CHRA and highly durable aluminum forged impeller achieve high engine output and better engine response.
  • Replacement with T51R series turbine and the turbo kit using T51R is simple since both installation positions are the same. (Oil & Water inlet / outlet are designed for GTIII-5R).

  • A successor model of TO4Z. Compact in size, but withstandable over 700PS.
  • Highly reliable MHI high performance CHRA & highly durable aluminum forged impeller are well-balanced.
  • Ported shroud function is selectable using an adapter.
    Replacing the position of the bolt securing ported shroud is able to keep the intake air path to reduce surging.

GTII SYMMETRY TWIN TURBO

GTII 7867 SYMMETRY SET

Honda RA168E showed overwhelming performance in F1 series in the 1980’s; the turbines for this engine were the symmetrical layout twin turbines. The ideal twin turbines layout for the V-shaped and horizontally opposed engines is a symmetrical twin turbine layout.
However, 99% of turbines made by turbine manufacturers are the right-hand rotation turbines, and left-hand rotation turbines are rarely made; therefore, it was almost impossible to make symmetrical twin turbines.
HKS developed and manufactured in-house symmetrical twin turbines; HKS’ original symmetrical twin turbines are now complete.
The symmetrical twin turbines included in GT Full Turbine Kit for R35 GT-R, which are highly rated by R35 owners from all over the world, are now available to purchase as a set independent of the rest of the kit.
The flanges for turbine inlet/outlet and gaskets are available separately as optional parts.

Extreme performance that does not sacrifice initial rise.

  • Turbine assy is HKS original designing of ball bearing turbo.
  • Because HKS has adpted ball bearing type we could keep down the response downslide as much as possible by getting more air with making the suction and exhaust wheel size bigger than the original.
  • Because we have adapted twin scroll, it could hold down the rise of the exhaust pressure at high rpm and ease the burden to the engine by expanding diameter of bypass port than the stock.
  • Our heat-resistant steel of turbine wheel and turbine housing have made big progress on durability and credibility.

  • HKS original design ball bearing type turbo.
  • This turbine was designed as a higher power model of GT II 7460 49T 0.69A/R (14001-AK018). Simply replacing with this turbine can upgrade the current specification easily.
  • The size of this turbine is designed to be comparable to HKS GT3037S and GT3240. It is designed to withstand the engine output between 400hp (295kw) to 520hp (383kw).
  • Compressor housing inlet diameter is 100mm, the outlet is a hose type with diameter of 50mm, the exhaust inlet flange is T25, and the outlet flange is 4-bolt 65mm flange.
    * Oil line fitment is slightly different from GT3037S or GT3240, but simple modification can be made in order to replace the turbine.
    • Oil Inlet Banjo Bolt for GTII M12 P1.25mm
    • Oil Outlet Flange for GTII : P=38mm M6 Bolt x 2

HKS GTII 8267, the biggest turbine in the HKS GTII series debut as an universal turbo.

  • A new model with a compressor housing inlet of φ 100 with a ported shroud and an outlet of φ 50 has been developed to make it easier to use the GTII 8267 with GTII maximum output as a universal turbo.
  • Two types of exhaust housing inlet flanges, 3Bolt and T25, are available.
  • A BLACK Coating is applied to the compressor housing, and the combination with the gold ported shroud decorates the engine room.
